What is SANE?

If you are new here {WELCOME!!} and haven’t read The Calorie Myth by Jonathan Bailor, then you are probably wondering why I keep mentioning the terms SANE, inSANE, SANEity, etc. and what they mean.

SANE is an acronym for determining how healthful a food is for us.  It is the way we can choose foods based on their quality.  You don’t have to be following a SANE lifestyle to enjoy the recipes that I have created.  They are suitable for anyone who is looking for a healthier future.  Most of them are also perfectly suitable for folks following other dietary lifestyles such as CThere’s something for everyone.  Oh, and just wait until you try a few – you never knew healthy could be so delicious!

In short, SANE foods are very high quality, healthful foods and inSANE foods are low quality, unhealthful foods.  Consistently eating SANE foods will help our hormones and metabolism to heal, allowing our body to give up any excess fat – not to mention give us tons of energy, make us feel fantastic, and a whole host of other benefits!  People who are focused on leading a SANE lifestyle choose foods that are SANE (high quality), and stay away from foods that are inSANE (low quality).

The four factors that help us determine the quality of a food are:

Satiety:  How much a food satisfies us, or how quickly a food fills us up and how long it keeps us full.  Focus on high-Satiety foods.

Aggression:  How fast a food raises the level of glucose in our blood.  Focus on unAggressive foods.

Nutrition:  How nutritious a food is per calorie.  Focus on highly Nutritious foods.

Efficiency:  How efficient our fat metabolism system is at converting a food into body fat.  Focus on inEfficient foods.

To sum up, SANE foods are foods that are Satisfying, unAggressive, Nutritious, and inEfficient.  These foods are the highest quality and most healthful foods.  A SANE lifestyle focuses on eating foods that are high in water, fiber, protein, whole-food fats, and low-sugar fruits, while avoiding beans, sugars & other sweeteners, starches, grains, and high-sugar fruits.  In creating all these delicious dishes I have taken all the guesswork out for you – this is your only source for Bailor-approved SANE recipes!

If you are here to follow a SANE lifestyle, here are some handy links to get you started.  If you’re just ready for some scrumptious healthy recipes, here you go!

For a complete guide to living a SANE lifestyle, I highly recommend you grab a copy of The Calorie Myth by Jonathan Bailor.  This book changed my life.

  • Lorretta Clarke - Hi Carrie,

I would love to buy your ice cream book. However, my husband is gluten free and dairy sensitive and I am wondering if there is a substitute for the yogurt as he seems sensitive to that lately.ReplyCancel

    • carrie - Hi Lorretta! I am a bit confused by your question. Which recipe are you referring to? Thanks!ReplyCancel

  • Lorretta Clarke - I bought the creative live class and saw that in many of your soups and ice cream recipes you use yogurt. my husband is gluten and dairy free and the only yogurt I have found to be dairy free is almond silk with a flavor, like strawberry. I am wondering if you can suggest a yogurt substitute in general for your recipes.ReplyCancel

    • carrie - Hi Loretta,

None of my ice cream recipes use yogurt. Many of them use heavy cream, but this is easily replaced with thick coconut milk (comes in a can). The same is true of almost all my soup recipes. In the odd soup recipe where I did use yogurt you could replace with thick coconut milk and then either a little lemon juice or a little vinegar to add the sharp yogurt tang back in (or leave it out if you like it how it is without!). Hope that helps!ReplyCancel

  • Linda - Hi Carrie, I was wondering if I have to use hemp milk because it is really expensive and I am on a tight budget. Same question for the Vanilla Pods is there something cheaper.ReplyCancel

    • carrie - Linda: you can use any nut milk. Flavor will be slightly different is all. Use vanilla essence instead of pods. Hope that helps!ReplyCancel

  • Linda - Hi Carrie, I also what to know where to find powered egg white.ReplyCancel

  • Judy - What are the starchy things we need to avoid? I know sweets, bread, and that kind of thing, but are there fruits and veggies that are off-limits? I couldn’t find a reference anywhere on the SANE website.ReplyCancel

    • carrie - Hi Judy – all fruits are off-limits except berries and citrus. All starchy veggies off-limits also – generally speaking below-ground veggies are a no-go and above-ground veggies are OK. Focus on leafy greens. Hope that helps!ReplyCancel
