I simply cannot be expected to drive all the way to Leary Way & 43rd Avenue in Ballard for breakfast and then fail to swing by Honore afterwards on the way home to pick up some pastries. I mean it’s just right there. So I did. Of course I did.
My intention was to grab a croissant (or two) and a pain au chocolat. And maybe another croissant-y-like thing. The Universe clearly had other plans for my mouth today. It wanted to give me lemons. Somehow, I left Honore with a little box containing a Lemon Meringue Tart. I love it when life surprises me like that.
This won’t be a long post. Just a few pictures and a few words.
I fully expected this Lemon Meringue Tart to be spectatular.
It was.
Spectacular.
Bright, sharp lemon cream filling. Fine, crisp-yet-tender, evenly baked pastry case. Fluffy, creamy, pure white meringue with just enough of a crust on the outside to keep it’s shape. The whole ensemble just melted in my mouth. The textures, the sweet-but-sharp creaminess encased in the golden shortbread-like crust.
I wish you had one of these to eat too. Your mouth would be so {very} happy. When life gives you lemons, eat Lemon Meringue Tart.
bobOK OK I surrender!
Even for someone who is not a great fan of desserts, this is just too much !!!
cbIt was, in fact, the perfect amount of tart for one delicious afternoon snack :-)
